The communication requirements of our modern society have triggered a search for new teaching strategies and techniques, able to meet the learners’ needs, especially since foreign language learning also develops certain challenging skills in the target language, particularly when exposing learners to real life communication contexts. The aims of this paper are to tackle certain difficulties encountered in teaching and learning English verb tenses and to present several innovative grammar teaching techniques. In view of these objectives, the paper consists of two main sections: the first section tackles some modern key elements in teaching English grammar, while the second section presents correlated activity samples of teaching verb tenses through games. The paper highlights the fact that grammar is not merely a content area that should be mastered by English teachers. Teachers should also be able to define it and to choose the most appropriate teaching methods, adapted to the students’ needs and expectations.
