Patrizia Mascoli - Ovid's Exile and Death in a Elegy by Angelo Poliziano
(pag. 127-134)
Angelo Poliziano, author of a large comment on the Fasti as well as on the Ovidian Sappho's epistle to Phaon, wrote also a small poem of twenty distichs entitled De Ovidii exilio et morte. This poem represented the official inaugural lecture for what was probably his last public course of lessons in 1493, the year before his death. The aim of this research is the philological, linguistic and stylistic examination of this less known work, which proves to be very interesting also because of the author's use of expressions and phrases referable to Ovid himself.
